1. How to
completely install the e-Lar system?
Follow the steps
below to properly install the e-Lar system:
- Install
Video Capture Card/s --Shut down the Video Host Server PC, open
up its side cover and insert the e-Lar Video Capture Card into
an available PCI Slot on the Mother Board and then Re-Boot the
Video Host Server. Then when the system detects a new Hardware
Device - select the Driver from eBT878-WDMDrv_X (X is B or C)
in CD and install. [NOTE] If your system is Windows XP, please
don't use the built-in driver in Windows system. It HAS TO use
the driver in e-Lar CD.
- Install
DirectX8.1 - For Windows 2000 or XP, skip the installation of
DirectX8.1. If you are not running Windows 2000 or XP then you
need to insert the Installation CD, open up the [DirectX81] Folder,
click on Win 2000 or Win 98 / ME and then click on the [DX81Eng.exe].
A system re-start will be required to complete the installation.
- Install
e-Lar STD, RIO or PRO Software - From the Installation CD, Run
Setup.exe or select the [e-Lar] Folder, open it and then Click
on the [Setup.exe] application and install into your Video Host
Server.
- Install Rockey
(USB Dongle Driver) -- During installing e-Lar software, you will
be required to install Rockey's USB Dongle Driver for software
protection. Please install its driver first. After finishing the
driver's installation, you can plug-in the USB Dongle into any
USB port, and then Windows will automatically complete the installation
of USB Driver.
- Install Serial
Number - After installing Rockey Driver, it requests the setup
of e-Lar's Serial Number. Because the "SERIAL NUMBER"
is burnt into Rockey Dongle, you just click "Read SN"
to get the serial number and enter the other field data then click
"Install" to complete the installation. <NOTE>
If you can not finish this step during e-Lar's setup, you can
manually run "Enter Serial Number" from Windows's [Start]
menu.
- Install CBRender.ax
- e-Lar's setup will automatically install CBRender.ax after completing
the above steps. If it successfully installs CBRender.ax, a message
"DllRegisterServer C:\Windows\CBRender.ax succeeded"
will be prompted. <Note> If it is not successful, you can
manually run "regsvr32 CBrender.ax" (here regsvr32 is
a registry program in "Windows\system" or "Winnt/system32")
from DOS command mode or run "Installax.bat" from "eBT878_WDMDrv_VCCB\TestProgram".
- Run e-Lar
STD/RIO/PRO - Click [e-Lar STD/RIO/PRO Program] from [Start]>>[Program
Files] to start the e-Lar application.
- Test VCC_X
- The folder "eBT878-WDMDrv_X\TestProgram" provides
testing program to check if VCC_X driver is correctly installed.
Before running this test program, the "CBRender.ax"
file must be installed first.

- Turn e-Lar
Host Video Server power OFF and open the Casing,
- Insert single
VCC_B capture card into one available PCI slot - Please make sure
the Card number is different to insert multiple cards. The VCC_B
card number is VCC_B0 (A01 on board), VCC_B1(A02), VCC_B2(A03)
and VCC_B3 (A04). It can not work for same multiple VCC_B card
numbers on same PC.
- Fix the VCC_Bx
capture card inside PC case's bracket,
- Put casing
back onto the PC,
- Turn PC Power
ON to install the Capture Card Driver,
- When your
Windows 98(SE) / ME / 2000 / XP starts, it will detect the new

- Put the e-Lar
CD into CD drive,
- Follow the
instruction of Windows dialog box to specify the location of VCC_B
driver at CD's directory as \eBT878-WDMDrv_VCCB. For Windows 2000
and XP, Please don't use the default driver provided by your Windows
system - You HAVE TO use the e-Lar's Driver in folder "eBT878_WDMDrv_B".
- The file
"e-Lar Documents\e-Lar User & Ops Guides\VCC_B Driver
for Windows 2000 XP.doc" explains the steps to install driver
on Windows XP. OR You can refer to "VCC_B Driver Update for
Windows 2000 XP.doc" to update the driver, if you have chosen
the Windows default driver.
- After finishing
the setup, go to the [Start]->[Settings]->[Control Panel]->
Select [system]-> click [Device Manager] to display the entries
as follows:

5. Why some
of cameras don't display image?
- If camera
screen is BLUE screen, it is no camera signal - please check the
video signal connector or power of cameras..
- If camera
screen is BLACK, check if the DirectX8.1 or CBRender.ax is not
installed (see Q1.9)
- Check the
usage of shared system IRQ. Some PC motherboards will decrease
the performance if too many PCI cards share same IRQ. From [Start]
' [Programs] ' [Accessories] ' [System Tools] ' [System Information],
check Hardware Resources' IRQs and change from BIOS CMOS settings
as required.
6. Why does
the camera image slow when going to record?
Turn on "Quick Compression", if you choose "IndeoR
Video X" CODEC
7. What are
the other setting I need to note?
- 1.Turn off
Screen Saver feature by going to the Desktop, click right button
of mouse to select [Display Properties] ' [Screen Saver] ' [Settings]
as below:
2.Turn off automatic cleanup for "Recycle Bin" on each
selected recording disk .
8. Which
CODEC is best for e-Lar?
When Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (OS) are installed they
are pre-loaded with standard Video Compress and Decompress CODEC's
from Microsoft and Intel.
In Playback MODE, the OS automatically, detects, selects and assigns
(from all CODEC's that have been pre-loaded) the correct Decompress
CODEC and applies it so normal Video Viewing is achieved.
In e-Lar Security
Host Software packages, you can optionally Install ADDITIONAL CODEC's
as well as nominated ANY CODEC to be used for RECORDING Compression.
Third Party CODEC's are being developed and improved all the time
and the BEST recommended third party CODEC is MPEG4 V5.0.2 or above
from DivXNetworks, Inc. at www.divx.com.
If you download
and apply the DivX Professional Version, it Compresses at very small
Frame Size (around 6 K / Frame at 100 % Quality) as well as at 320
* 240 Size.
Whilst this
is already extremely good, what's SPECIAL about this version is
the RE-SIZE function which when Applied, on RECORD (Compresses at
around 12 K / Frame) and in PLAYBACK allows you to RE-SIZE each
Frame up to full screen (960*720) without loosing picture Quality.
9. How to
partition the disk?
e-Lar provides multiple disks cyclic recording, so carefully plan
the disk partitions to store live images at max recording days.
Normally for the multiple disks, we can partition those disks with
D:, E:, F: G:,
, Y at total 24 partitions (not include CD-ROM,
C: and Floppy A as well as B). If total available disk space for
recording is below 240Gbytes, we suggest each partition is around
10 Gbytes. For over 240 Gbytes, select number of partitions and
partition size at (Total recording space / No of Partitions). E-Lar
removes the full partition which is the oldest time when all of
disk partitions are full, not remove film by film.
